The program aims to help participants build strong work habits and essential skills that will enhance their employability.

Applications Timeline and Application Process: 

Applications for the program are typically opened every March, around Spring Break, and close in May.

Required Documentation: 

• Tribal membership card/Verification of residence

• Social Security card

• Driver Licenses or ID card

• *All males over the age of 18 must be registered with the Selective Service system.

Program Schedule:

The program runs for six weeks during the months of June and July.  

Eligible applicants can earn $11.00 per hour for 40 hours per week.  

Our goal is to place you in a career field related to your studies for a job shadowing experience within your area.

Basic Eligibility Criteria and Requirements: 

• Cherokee Nation citizen or member of a federally recognized tribe must reside within the reservation.

• Applicant must be between the ages of 16 and 24 at the time of application.

• Applicants under 18 years old must have a parent or guardian assist them in filling out the application.

• All males over the age of 18 must be registered with the Selective Service system.  

Due to limited federal funds, SYCP can only accept a limited number of Federally Recognized Tribes for the program.  

The previous year’s tax returns must be submitted for all adults working in the household.  

A mix of income or non-income-based positions is available under specific funding guidelines.   

Positions are determined via citizenship of the Cherokee Nation or other federally recognized tribes.
